Important information regarding the Sunset Strip water supply
The water supplied to Sunset Strip is chlorinated but non-potable, which means it does not undergo the treatment process or testing in line with the Australian Drinking Water Guidelines.
What you need to know
There is basic filtration and chlorination of the water supply but it is classified as non-potable. While the water is periodically tested, Essential Water cannot ensure the safety of the water for drinking or food preparation.
As chlorination alone is not an effective treatment for all potential water quality risks, such as algae, it is important that residents and visitors are aware of the following:
- There is basic filtration and chlorination of the water supply
- It is classified as a non-potable supply, as it has only basic treatment and is not monitored daily
- The water is not recommended for drinking or food preparation
- The water may not be suitable for showering and bathing.
If we identify a water quality risk that could impact human health during our testing, we will notify residents with the actions they can take to minimise the risk.
We recommend residents place stickers ‘Warning, non-potable water – not recommended for drinking’ on all taps in or around their residence. We can supply the stickers free of charge.
We have also installed untreated‑water signs around Sunset Strip to help make the advice prominent for residents and visitors about using non‑potable water.
